In 1962, Charlie Byrd collaborated with
Stan Getz on the famous 1962 album "Jazz Samba,"
a recording which pushed bossa nova into the
mainstream of North American music.
Although he was the U.S. guitarist who best
understood and played Brazilian music, Bossa Nova,
in particular, his earliest and strongest musical
influence was the famous gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt.
Listen closely to Byrd's version of "Wave."
Can you hear Django in his phrasing?
